Plan your day on Today

Let Start here pick your first task, begin with a two-minute start, capture new tasks and sort your Inbox.

The hardest part of a day is often the first task. Today is built to make that choice for you and to keep new ideas out of the way until you have time for them.

Start with one task

  1. Read the Start here panel

GoalZen picks one task in a fixed order: this week’s pick first, then anything overdue or due today, then the nearest deadline, then priority, then the shortest estimate. The panel says why: Picked because: followed by the reason.

  2. Press Start 2 min

Start 2 min starts a two-minute sprint, the smallest possible commitment. When it ends GoalZen says “Two minutes done. That was the hard part.” Choose Keep going (25 min) to carry on, or Stop for now. Both count.

Prefer a full session straight away? Press Focus instead.

  3. Swap it if it’s wrong

Press Not this one to see the next task. After a few swaps the button becomes Spin, which lets chance pick: any open task is better than none.

Capture without losing focus

When something new comes up, write it down in a few seconds and get back to what you were doing.

  1. Open Capture a task

Press + Task on Today, or Add task at the top of any page. The Capture a task window opens.

  2. Write it and leave it in the Inbox

Type the task. Put under is set to Inbox, so you don’t have to decide where it belongs now. Add an Estimate (min) or a Due date if you know them, then press Add task. Tick Add another to capture several in a row.

Sort your Inbox

  1. Open the Inbox

Choose Inbox in the sidebar; the number beside it is how many captures are waiting. On Today, the Captured, not sorted line in the right-hand column links there too.

  2. Answer a few questions per task

The Inbox shows one capture at a time and asks where it goes: In a project?, Which goal?, This week or later? and Short or long? Answer and press File it.

Not ready to decide? Skip for now. Not worth doing? Not needed deletes it after you confirm. When you are through, you will see Inbox clear.
